The challenge with this house was to design for a narrow city lot with constricting setback rules: a lot 25 feet wide with 5 foot setbacks
allows only a 15 foot wide house! Walls framed with 2x6 for insulation ate up another foot, stairs to the second floor ate up precious floor
space. Locating the windows to not look into the neighbors windows was a trick. Getting a lot of daylight into the house was a must. Light
from two sides in any room was the guiding principle and we achieved that in spite of the tiny lot.
We designed and built a home in Port Royal, then sold it to move to Statesboro
Upon entering the front door:
My good friend Dan Hamilton built that beautiful pine cabinet. Notice the doors on it match the doors on the
white cabinets, and the doors in the house. Notice also that it is built into the wall. Otherwise I might have
taken it with me. Dan usually does amazing restoration work or furniture that he makes by hand, really by
hand: HiltonHeadIsland.com/DLHAMILTON
